Corrosion Detection

The Datalab is investigating multiple applications of computer vision. One of those applications is corrosion detection. The goal is to insert a picture of a pipe or valve and the application will return the verdict: the pipe or valve has corrosion, or is free of rust.

This concept is now in the Proof of Concept phase. We have build a working algorithm which reports whether a valve or pipe has corrosion, and the algorithm works in almost 80% of the tested cases.

Next steps are to further develop the model to also return where the corrosion is located on the photo and the state of the corrosion.
