VAS – Data Assessment & Strategy

VAS is the global market leader in dairy management software, offering both cloud and on-premise platforms to efficiently manage dairy operations. The VAS Platform contains information about more than 10 million cows, including data on milk, feed, activity, illness, genetics and life events. Combining these kinds of data sources at such a large scale has never been done before, and could generate unique insights about the dairy industry. While there is an abundance of ideas about potential use cases within VAS, it is unclear yet what the feasibility of these use cases is given the availability and quality of the different data sources.

The goal of this project was to explore and combine the different data sources within VAS and assess their quality and completeness. We also interviewed key stakeholders within VAS to identify both opportunities and challenges. Based on these qualitative and quantitative insights, we determined the feasibility of different use cases. In cases where data quality was insufficient, we recommended methods to clean existing data sources and improve data capturing from this point onwards.

The deliverable is a report that describes the current state and advises a data science and data management roadmap. The report contains detailed information about the various data sources, recommendations for improvement of data quality, architecture and processes, and opportunities for data science projects.
